Carson Cumberbatch PLC, the ultimate controlling shareholder of Lion Brewery PLC last week increased its shareholding of the beer manufacturing company by the purchase of nearly 0.6 million Lion shares at Rs. 605 per share.
The Caron's controlled Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC (previously Ceylon Brewery) owns 52.25 percent of Lion according to that company's last annual report for 2013/14. Carson's on its own account held 4.1 million shares of Lion (5.13%) according to the published figures.
Last week's acquisition has increased this holding to nearly 4.7 million shares. A million Lion Brewery shares were crossed at the Rs. 605 per share price last week with Carson's acquiring over half this quantity.
The acquisition was reported to the Stock Exchange under director's dealings in shares of companies where they are board members as there are common directors in Lion and Carson's.
